After building the Grand Canal d’Alsace the Canal Rhône au Rhin from Mulhouse to Friesenheim was shut down. To get into the old canal one is obliged to go onto the Grand Canal (see Grand Canal d’Alsace). At the moment there are efforts in progress to make this closed part navigable again.
