Description: La Vilaine
For the skipper this is one of the most beautiful rivers of France, a river of superlatives. The nicest landing stages of France, if not at all, the most charming river mills of the country and on top the friendliest and helpful people serving on the locks we ever met in France!!



















La Vilaine – Brittany, Information
The River is navigable for 139 km, from a bit above Rennes to the sea lock at Port d’Arzal. The remaining kilometres to the Atlantic are under maritime law. It is a rather quiet river with a charming surrounding. But, one has to be careful and stay always in the marked band. Especially on the upper part, there are rocks in the river. At Rennes the Canal Ille et Rance branches off, on which one can get to St. Malo. Together, they are therefore a water-way from the Atlantic to the Channel.

Tourism
The varied stretches with Chateau’s, Mills and continually changing surroundings, make this river a lovely experience.

One gets the varied dishes of Brittany with fish and other sea food, as well as beef and goat’s meat at the inland.
