What takes a long time has to turn out well. After 30 years of planning and construction, this project has finally been completed. Europe’s most up-to-date boat lift in Strépy-Thieu is in ser-vice and finally makes a direct link from Charleroi and Brussels to the French Class IV canal system possible. And yet this short canal has lost nothing of its charm for tourists; quite the contrary.
