For pleasure boat captains interested in history, these little canals in western Flanders are certainly meaningful; as it was here that the worst battles of WWI took place. German military leaders’ statistics for 1917: “German losses in Flanders: 219,9000 men…”. As was the case with these battles, the two waterways end more or less in a dead end.
