Near Herentals our canal turns northeast, toward the Netherlands, but bends near Lommel once again toward the southeast and runs into the Zuidwillemsvaart near Bocholt, which then runs back into the Albert Canal near Maastricht. In addition, from Bocholt-Herentals a branch canal runs to Leopoldsburg. With the exception of a few industrial areas, this waterway flows through a charming landscape with the pretty little villages of the province of Limburg.
