This is for many of us unfortunately only the shortest way between the Netherlands and the south. A pity since Belgium can offer many interesting rivers and canals to any houseboat captain who takes his time to find out about them. With the opening of Strépy-Thieu the ship lift at the Canal du Centre, Belgium has at the moment presumably the most imposing construction of its kind.
