Having passed the short Bay of Patras and the strait of Rion, coming from the Ionian Sea, one gets the feeling to be on a lake framed by high mountains in the south and the north. Alike impressive is the high and very narrow canal of Corinth. Those who wish, can save with this route a 150 nautical miles on the way from the Ionian Sea to Athens.
