The coast of northern Greece with the islands of Thásos and Samothráki
is not as popular to skippers as the more southern ones of the Aegean Sea, this in spite of the fact that it offers also that lovely blue sea with a lot of fine, sandy beaches. On the coast itself and on the three peninsulas of Kassandra, Sithonia and Agion Oros one finds an ample vegetation. Tourists count the island of Thasos to be one of the most beautiful places for swimming in Greece. The smaller island of Damothraki is much rougher and untroubled by streams of tourists. It is a lovely place for wanderers in spring.
This area surely has the most extreme climate of Greece with snow in winter and a sweltering heat in summer.
