Dodecanes (from: the 12 islands, ta dodeká nisa)
Dodecanes
This group of islands in the southern Sporades of the Aegean feature a moderate climate with mild winters and not too hot summers. The islands are not only formed by Greek and Ottoman culture, in many places Venetian and newer Italian traces can be found. This doesn't surprise since the islands of the Aegean belonged for quite some time to the force of the Venetian trading power; furthermore they were ceded to Italy in 1923 by the Turks where they rested until 1943.
As all the other isles of the Aegean, also this group of islands offer, sandy and pebble beaches, crystal clear water and dozens of remains of their long history. The hilly isles are rather bare with the exception of Kos and Rhodes, they have green vegetation. For navigation it is an estuary away of the big hype, but also of the big marinas but there are plenty of small fishing ports and uncountable coves for anchorage.
