Po di Goro / Po di Gnocca / Po delle Tolle
Po di Maistra

Delta del Po

If one takes the next turn off after Bera to the south, one gets onto the longest side arm of River Po, the Po di Goro. After a good 9 km the twin towns Ariano nel Polesine and Ariano Ferrarese are greeting us. The first of them offers nearly all infrastructures but no tie up nor anything similar to one. Next the famous castle of Mesola appears at starboard, we greet it from far - no tie up either! Finally, a 40 km later, a bigger place, Goro, leaps into view. Finally, one can find some wooden poles which could, with some fantasy, be called a tie up.
We continue we would like to pass the floating bridge yet. With some patience we manage this and arrive in Gorino Ferranese in the corse of the afternoon. It looks a bit chaotic in the fishermen's port but with some luck, we manage to find a place for us. Next morning, we continue and reach the Sea after 6 km only and find out that the winds allow the short way of 3 km over the Adriatic Sea to the mouth of the Po di Gnocca.

Hardly on the Po di Gnocca, we arrive in front of the well conserved floating bridge of Gnocchetta. The pontoon is vacant and we use the short waiting time for a going ashore. Unfortunately also this side arm of the Po doesn't offer any tie up possibilities but the river is, with banks overgrown with bushes and trees rather idyllic and nice to navigate on. After 20 km, we reach the River Po again. It is here already 350 m wide.
There would also be the last side branch to the south, the Po delle Tolle, but the surroundings wouldn't be any different and it is an impasse. We therefore miss it out.
Unfortunately, we have to refrain from navigating the beautiful Po di Maistra which is following the southern edge of Parco Naturale Delta del Po, since we are not able to get any reliable information on its water depth.
