Fiume Natissa
Canale della Teiada
Canale San Pietro d'Oria
From one of the oldest Roman ports
to the fishermen's town of Grado
Fiume Natissa & Aquilea
Navigation on a short stretch of the small river Natissa brings us into the town centre of Aquilea. In Roman times it used to be one of the 9 most important towns of the empire and had a port with an imperial length of 400 m. The dock walls with stone bollards have been laid open again and can be visited. Even more impressive is a visit at the Patriarchal-Basilica. In the nave, one of the biggest, still remaining mosaic floors can be seen and the Cripta is worth a visit too. The most impressive part however, is the church below the church. It is of early Christian times and its entry is right behind the entrance into the Basilica.
Canale della Teiada und Canale San Pietro d'Orio
Coming from the Natissa, we get into the Teiada, a feeder of the Litoranea Veneta. Canale San Pietro, which leads to Caorle, is part of the Litoranea Veneta, the former inland waterway connection of Monfalcone to Venice.
Caorle
the former fishermen's town now depends on a large extent of tourism but still has a respectable fishery fleet. There are several marinas for skippers.
