The Oxford Canal
Oxford Canal
was once the most important link from London to the Midlands. After the Grand Union Canal was built, being bigger, broader and more modern, it fell asleep for centuries.
Tourism has wakened it then and today it is one of the favourites of Narrow Boat friends.
It goes from Oxford on the Thames to the North until Coventry, passing almost untouched surroundings with a lot of charm.
Its popularity has a shady side as well; during the main season, it is rather crowded and the heavy traffic can lead to water shortages. Connoisseurs know, its nicest on the canals in autumn anyway.
