Macclesfield Canal
Cheshire Ring

The Macclesfield Canal
This canal is part of the Cheshire ring too. It extends from Marple to Hall Green and offers fantastic views – above all up to Bosley. In the south it links to the Trent & Mersey- and in the north to the Peak Forest Canal.

History
In 1796, the first stretch of the canal was finished. It gave the silk industry in Macclesfield a fast transport way to Marple and over the Peak Forest Canal to Manchester.
When the canal was finally open all through to the Trent & Mersey Canal in 1831, transport ways from Manchester to the midlands became 40 km less!
