This connection between the Lancaster and the Leeds & Liverpool Canal has become much more interesting and visited since the access to the River Ribble has been established again. This also means that it is now connected to the rest of the English canal system again.

The Rufford Branch goes from Bursough on the Leeds & Liverpool northwards until Tarleton where one changes onto the River Douglas which conducts you onto the Ribble, a few kilometres later where it either gets you to Preston or onto the Lancaster Canal.
