River Avon Navigation
Warwickshire

Avon Navigation or Shakespeares Avon
is parted into three streches
Lower Avon Navigation
After Second World War navigation on the entire river was closed down. But already in 1950 the Lower Avon Navigation Trust was launched, and in 1962 the 8 locks between Tewkesbury and Evesham were restored and the river therefore navigable again to this town.
Upper Avon Navigation
The Upper Avon was in a much worse condition, some of the locks had to be rebuilt completely. Works started here a bit later but finally in 1974 the waterway was entirely reopened again and has now in Stratford upon Avon access to the canal of the same name and to the Grand Union
Higher Avon Navigation
This short part, going from river Avon at Stratford upon Avon to the Grand Union, is not navigable anymore today. It will probably remain that way, since one has the possibility to reach the Grand Union over the Stratford upon Avon Canal and this way is only a bit longer.
