Ashby-de-la-Zouch Canal
Leicestershire

Ashby de la Zouch Kanal
This old canal for coal transportation northeast of Birmingham is very rural from Marston Junction to Snarestone and has no locks. It is therefore very pleasant to navigate. The canal was originally 14 km longer, but subsidence caused by mines detonating during the World War led to the closing of the upper section.
Repairs are done from Snarestone today in order to reinstall a link to the short navigable stretch going to the canal museum at Moira.
This may take quite some time since part of the canal bed was missused for the motorway.
