Taunton & Bridgwater Canal
The canal is 23.5 km long and has 8 locks. It is part of the small estuary of navigable waterways in Somerset. It crosses a uniquely beautiful plain which is, for its animals and plants, protected.  
The waterways of this region used to have an entire length of 242 km but they never reached the importance of those in north England and the Midlands.
Unfortunately the Bridgwater Taunton is at the moment isolated because the links to River Parrett at Bridgwater and those to River Tone at Taunton don't exist anymore. And the following stretch of the Grand Western Canal is not yet navigable as well.

Gegenwärtig ist nur der südwestliche, in Devon gelegene Abschnitt des Kanals bedingt schiffbar. Da die Gegend 1971 in einen Landschaftspark umgewandelt wurde, ist hier nur eine Gesellschaft mit von Pferden gezogenen Narrowboats zugelassen. Es wird nicht erwartet, dass der Grand Western nach der Grenze zu Somerset bis zum Bridgwater & Taunten wieder hergestellt wird.
