Stratford upon Avon Canal
Stratford upon Avon Canal
The canal leads from the Worcester & Birmingham Canal in the South of Birmingham eastward over Lapworth, where it has a link to the Grand Union, further to the south until Stratford-on-Avon on the Upper Avon. The northerly stretch is the more charming and comfortable alternative to the Grand Union, especially for skippers going to the south of Birmingham. In the southerly part one should not miss to visit the aquaducts of Edstone and Wooton Waven. The canal was ceremouniously inaugurated by Queen Elisabeth and the Queen Mother in 1964. After 5 years of very hard work by canal friends, the army, convicts and employees of the National Trust.
