Grand Canal, Irland
Barrow Line
Naas Branch
Milton Feeder

No license needed for house boats.

Construction on this canal began in 1756, linking Dublin with the Main Line, the way to the Shannon and thus the west. There is a 4-km long tributary at Naas with 5 locks and then another, the 45-km long Barrow Line to Athy with 9 locks. The 13 km of the Milltown Feeder can only be navigated in small boats, but the journey is well worth it. At Pollardstown Fen one finds landscape and vegetation similar to that of Ireland 5000 years ago. Edenderry can also be reached on a small tributary.
