Walensee

Walensee
It is the biggest mountain lake of eastern Switzerland and has high mountains all around it. Some of the flanks fall steeply almost 1000 m down to the lake.

Tourism
& Information
Even though the two lakes, Lake of Zurich and Walensee, are connected by the Linth canal for nearly 200 years now, the difference couldn’t be any bigger. Lake of Zurich is a typical lake of the midlands while the smaller Walensee is a downright mountain lake. This also means that it has a clearly deeper water temperature.  While the mountainous region is rather cool, the village of Quinten has a southerly climate and is wine growing. The village is free of cars and can only be reached by foot or boat. The lake becomes because of its strong to stormy winds more and more a paradise for wind surfers.
